The Korean Women’s World Network (KOWIN) Western United States conference was held on the evening of May 20th at the Hilton Hotel in Burlingame under the theme of ‘4th Industrial Revolution and Women’s Leadership.’
At the conference, after the opening declaration by Park Hee-rye, president of the San Francisco branch, Ji-eun Song, the director of the Western United States, gave a welcoming speech and said, “The role of female leaders is not only housework and childcare, but also as communicators, emotional intelligence, and social skills to keep up with the changes of the times, and stand in the reality of facing the times.”
Following the welcome speech, Kim Hyun-sook, Minister of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jeong-sun, former Director of the Department of the West, Sang-soo Yoon, SF Consul General, Jane Kim, former member of the San Francisco City Council, and Kim Han-il, President of the Korean Association of San Francisco, congratulated the United States West Joint Conference.
Next, the conference’s keynote speaker, Dr. Suji Oh, the 9th US Western Affairs Officer, introduced the virtues that famous leaders should have, and also introduced books that leaders should read, saying that leaders should read books.
Grace Yoo (running for LA City Council member) and Lina Park, Chief Marketing Officer at Asian Health Services, who attended the second part of the panel, shared their experiences of confidently establishing themselves in mainstream society as Asian and Korean women.
The event, hosted by Eom Young-mi, was attended by about 70 people, including KOWIN members from the San Francisco branch in the western United States, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and Seattle, Consul General Sang-soo Yoon, San Francisco Korean Association President Kim Han-il, East Bay Korean Association President Lee Jin-hee, and Kim Jin-deok, Chairman of the Chung Kyung-sik Foundation, Kim Soon-ran.
