KOWIN Pacific LA members had a meaningful cultural visit by viewing the silk lantern exhibition held at the Korean Cultural Center in LA. This visit was even more meaningful as it consisted of a program that included exhibition viewing, experiential activities, and a tour of the Korean Cultural Center.
Upon entering the exhibition space, the softly spreading light and soft colors unique to silk enveloped the space, creating a calm atmosphere. The harmony of silk texture and light, which originated from traditional textile culture, combined with a modern installation method, allowed a new experience of Korea’s unique aesthetic. Members had time to admire each work and exchange opinions on how traditional materials can be expanded into modern art.
After viewing the exhibition, a mini silk lantern production program consisting of an experiential kit was conducted. Members assembled the light frame using the provided kit, attached silk pattern paper, and installed LED lights inside. Finally, the moment the switch was turned on, soft light spread from the small lamp and each work was completed. The completed mini lantern is a small light with a traditional atmosphere but with a modern feel. It was designed so that anyone could easily make it, making it an enjoyable experience.
During the subsequent tour of the Korean Cultural Center, we heard explanations about the exhibition space, performance hall, and educational program operation status, and looked at various activities to promote Korean culture in the LA area. Members directly saw the role of the Korean Cultural Center as a central institution for cultural exchange and also shared ideas on how KOWIN Pacific LA can cooperate with cultural programs in the future.
This cultural tour was a meaningful combination of art appreciation, experience, and institutional visits. Like the warm light of a small mini lantern, it was a time when we experienced the moment when traditional culture was alive and breathing in our daily lives.
KOWIN Pacific LA plans to continue interacting with the local community through various activities that connect culture and leadership.
